次の文も受験英語でよく出てくる構文です。
まずthe difference lies in A という表現。違いはAにある、という構造があります。
そこにnot so much A as B、 AでなくBに〜がある という構文が組み合わさっていますね。
validity 正しさ。validは 正しい、です。

trepidation は難しい語ですね。狼狽です。当惑したり、ためらったり・・・と感情が４つが並列されています。
分析家、探偵にとっては人の一挙手一投足を見れば真相がわかるということですね。少し恐ろしい気もします。
